Yoga, meditation, massage and reiki

These alternative therapies should not be easily dismissed. They have been practiced for thousands of years and have been found to be very useful in helping to treat PCOS.

Yoga, meditation, massage and reiki are four alternative therapies that are widely known and have been shown to help many people with a myriad of ailments. PCOS is not on the exclusion list here.

These therapies can really help you on your path to being PCOS-free. If not by using them exclusively then by using them as a complementary therapy.

An important aspect when treating anything, is how the treatment can fit into your life. If for example, you need to take 12 different vitamins, 3 times a day, you may find that you're not keeping up. This needs to be a consideration for you, you're only human. What I love about these alternative therapies are that they're all really enjoyable. If you're at a stage on your treatment path where you just cannot stand the thought of taking another vitamin, running another mile, seeing another doctor, drinking another elixir...why not give one of these alternative therapies a go? It's a way to feel like you're doing nothing, when you're actually still helping yourself on your PCOS path.

Below is information about each therapy, including links to research that supports their claims.

Yoga has been practiced for literally thousands of years. It is a holistic practice that encompasses the mind, body and soul. It has been used for thousands of years to help people live better lives, heal their ailments, improve their mindset and connect with their bodies, minds and spirit on a deeper level.

These days, it is everywhere and it is diverse. There are a vast array of styles being taught and it couldn't be more accessible. Some like it fast, some like it hot, some like it very slow. Some enjoy it in a class, some on youtube, some in a book. However you want to get into yoga doesn't really matter, the point is that you can get into it easily and it can potentially really help you on your PCOS path.

There is no doubt that women with PCOS are suffering from hormonal imbalance. In fact, it is this hormonal imbalance that really causes most of the symptoms of PCOS. Why this hormonal imbalance occurs in the first place is up for debate but one of the contenders for blame is stress. Stress is a powerful sensation, one that directly effects our hormones.

Whatever the cause, whatever to blame...yoga can legitimately help. The sheer act of doing yoga is stress relieving. It can release tension, reduce anxiety and even combat depression.

On top of this, there are certain yoga poses (asanas) that can actually help to balance your hormones.

Research has shown that yoga can be significanty more effective at improving PCOS symptoms than other forms of exercise.

Below is a list and description of some helpful yoga asanas and how they work.
